Engagement Story

On my Birthday, July 2, 2004. Noah had planned a huge surprise for me. Little did I know he was anticipating to ask me to be his wife. Weeks prior to my birthday Noah had asked me to save the evening of my birthday to spend with him, but it was a surprise! He would not tell me what he had planned. In those weeks prior he began asking my Grandparents, Aunt and Uncle if he could ask for my hand in Marriage. They were all very excited and said yes, still no one told me what was going on! They only hints Noah would give me were: 1) Neither one of us had ever done this in our lives. 2) We might get wet. 3) There is a very small chance we could die. Having only those hints I was led to believe we were going skydiving, Rock Climbing, or something very crazy. Then he asked me to dress up and that threw me for a loop! I had no clue as to what he had planned! I talked to others trying to figure out what was going to happen, no one would even give me the slightest clue! I did begin to think maybe just maybe he was going to pop the question but I knew he had not talked to my grandparents ( because I thought they could never keep that a secret). Well the day finally came, I did my tradition by going to lunch with my grandparents and aunt. Then I went home to get ready for this special evening. The time had finally come and he was at the door with a vase stuffed full of red, pink and white sweetheart roses and a card. Shortly after he arrived we left and headed down the highway. He asked where my change of clothing was in case we got wet (oh NO, I had forgotten them!) he said not to worry about it that I probably wouldnt need them. I figured out that we were heading to a neighboring city for our special time together. We had dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse (very delicious). What we were going to do next was the huge surprise! The only clues he would give me were: 1) we were going to head back toward home. 2) what we were going to do was going to be in steps. As we got closer to home he then told me that step one would be that I had to put a blindfold on about 10 minutes outside of his destination. So we get back into town and he gets off the highway at a weird exit and pulls over into a gas station. The only thing to my knowledge that is close to this exit is the airfield. Once again I am at a loss for what he had planned! He then continues driving for what seemed like an eternity not 10 minutes! We pulled up to his destination and I hear people talking, and water running in the background, at that point I was sure I was going to get wet! At that point he told me that we couldnt get out of the car yet, that he was waiting on some people! I hear people walk by our vehicle and get into a car and drive off. He then told me, it was time to get out of the car and he would lead me to his destination. As we are walking I hear water running, like a fountain! and other nature sounds in the background. He then stops me and says, "okay we are here and step two is, you can take the blindfold off or we can leave it on and turn around and go back home, and pretend this never happened!" of course I told him to take it off! So he removed the blindfold and gives me this big hug and says," step three is where you get to say yes or no to what were are going to do next... and then he said...We have been friends for quite a few years now and I love you with all of my heart and want to spend the rest of my life with you. ( all the while he is getting down on one knee and pulling out a big huge plastic ring.) I said to him are you serious and he said yes I love you with all of my heart and I want to spend the rest of my life with you! and I said yes, yes, yes! He then stands up and says step four is we live happily ever after. " Then I notice we are at the lake! So we took a short walk and he tells me we are going to have to leave soon that he has yet another surprise for me! But I have to put the blindfold back on! So we left and he placed the blindfold back on me. He continued to drive and thankfully this time it didnt seem as far! We reach his second destination and he gets me out of the car and I hear and feel the presents of people in the background. He takes the blindfold off of me and there are about 50 people standing on the front porch of his home. All the family and friends came to celebrate this special occasion, both our engagement and my birthday, with us! I later find out that the way we would have gotten wet was if I had said NO! He would of jumped into the lake and drowned himself! That was also the small chance of us dying as well! The following day we went ring shopping, he didn't make me keep the big plastic ring as the real thing! All in all I would have to say that his plan was the best thing that could of ever happened to me! I have such a wonderful man, to call my husband!

Just thought I would write a little bit about myself in this posting. I will breifly tell you the story of how I met my wonderful husband. How I decided to go into the field of social work. And I will share with you a few people who have made an impact in my life.

First off, the Lord has truely blessed me with an amazing husband. I meet Noah in Aug of 2000. Just over 5 years ago. We first met at the Christian Students Association (now called Christian Challenge). Since our first encounter we grew as friends. He was someone I could count on to be there when I needed him and he was an awesome encouragement! He always encouraged me to follow the Lord first and formost. I was very grateful to have such a nice friend. As our friendship grew so did our Love for one another. To my suprise on July 2, 2004 (my birthday) he asked me to be his wife, with great joy I said YES! On my next posting I will tell our engagement story. On March 19, 2005 we were Married at TBC. We shared a wonderful week in Hawaii for our honeymoon (also a huge suprise to me). In a later postings I will share with you more about Hawaii and I will post more pictures.

I am often asked why I chose to go into the field of social work. First I will tell you it was a desire that God laid upon my heart; to help others. I initially had gone into the nursing field and found out quickly that wasnt the field I was to stay in. I decided to take a few Social Work (sw) classes with a friend of mine. After much prayer, I decided this was a field I could see myself in. I had a desire to work with children and the elderly population. In hind sight, I see exactly that this is where the Lord had led. I now work as a social worker in a Long-term care facility and absolutely love each of my residents!

I will now breifly talk about a couple of people who have impacted my life. Number one being my husband! He has taught me so much about how to love others, just in the way he has shown me unconditional Love. As I said above he has always been a great encouragement in many ways. The most important way he has encouraged me is by being there for me and encouraging me to seek the Lord in all that I do. As you can see I am totally in Love with the man I married!

The next people that have really made an impact on my life are my grandparents. They have been there for me throughout many rough times in my life and have always shown me support and Love. After spending many of my childhood years in a home of alcoholism, my grandparents took me out of that. I began living with them when I was 13 and they have shown me support continuously since then. I couldn't ask for a better set of grandparents! My grandfather especially has taught me a lot about life and living.

I'm sure in future postings you will hear more about these people and others as I type my thoughts out!
